Spring Recycled Art Workshops at the Harwood Museum of Art

In the Spring of 2010, I team-taught 3 Recycled Art Workshops over the course of 3 weekends at the Harwood
Museum of Art with Taos artist and educator, Sienna Sanderson. I loved providing kids and families with the
opportunity to play and be creative with repurposed and
recycled materials. The Taos News did a feature article
about the program. You can read it here.

Sienna and I chose the theme of “nature in spring” with a focus on birds, flowers and bugs. Each week we had a
particular focus with creating birds, then bird housing (bird houses and nests both bird-sized and kid-sized),
and then food (bugs, caterpillars, slugs and snakes) for the birds along with lots of lowers, eggs and other
inspired creations from participants’ imagination.

In the installation we chose to bridge the indoor and outdoor museum spaces by installing work both out of doors
and inside the education installation area.
For me the most exciting aspect of the workshops was witnessing and
participating in the transformation of what would usually be considered "junk" into creative innovative, and beautiful
birds, birdhouses, eggs, bugs and other creations.

The creations from the workshops are installed in the Education exhibition area
at the Harwood Museum through the end of May 2010.

We hope to be offering more opportunities to participate in
other recycled art adventures at the Harwood!

                                      Radical Raven Adventures Summer Camp

art, ecology and games in Nature

I am currently working with Roberta Salazar, executive director of Rivers and Birds, an environmental education
organization which seeks to"provide experiential education which celebrates the interconnection of all life and
which "inspires individuals to be leaders for Earth stewardship and peace."

In the summer of 2009 we created a fun 3-day summer camp exploring sustainability and ecology through art,
games and other hands on projects. We hope that this will be a pilot project for future camps in future years!

Visit Rivers & Birds online at www.riversandbirds.org for more information about current programs.
